Anagha Pethe

Portrait of an Indian woman in her late thirties with her hair in a low bun, wearing a plain unprinted mustard cotton top, seated on a grey sofa under a warm reading lamp in the evening, soft light from the left on her face and a dark blue-grey wall behind her, seen in three-quarter view at eye level, a thick closed hardback book resting on her knees and both hands folded on its cover

Anagha Pethe is a pen name for the site's writer on two subjects that look unrelated and are not: Android files and the law. Both answer the same reader question — is this thing what it claims to be, and what happens if it is not?

Pages she keeps

How she checks files and the law

For files, she looks at what a reader can see without special tools: the address the download came from, the file name and extension, the permissions the installer asks for, and the first screen after opening. She does not publish download links and does not test files on her own phone; the checks are written so that a reader can run them in two minutes.

For the law, she works from the text of the Act and its Rules and from court reporting, and quotes the official name of the law rather than slogans about it. Where the answer is unwelcome — and on the question of whether Khelo24Bet is legal in India, it is — the page says so in its first line.

Background

She worked as a researcher for a consumer-rights newsletter, writing explainers on mobile payment scams and app permissions for readers who were not technical.
